FAQs

How much do the services cost?
Mumbling Marmot charges $46 per hour. This covers the tutoring session as well as normal preparation time and materials. If an unusual amount of prep time is required or rarely used materials are needed, there will be an added charge which will be discussed with the client before it happens.

What kind of credentials do the tutors have?
Most Mumbling Marmot tutors are licensed teachers who tutor in their field of expertise. Some of the tutors have gained their experience the long way--by homeschooling children for 12 to 16 years. Resumes are available for all tutors.

Where do tutoring sessions happen?
Tutors work in their home offices, the client home, or a public venue such as a school, church or library.

How can tutoring help?
Tutoring provides one-on-one instruction tailored to the individual student's needs and learning style. The undivided, patient attention of a professional educator can help a student learn skills that are difficult for them to master in a classroom environment. It can be the foundation needed for a good start in reading and math or the key to better scores on the SAT or GED.

Does Mumbling Marmot Tutoring serve students with special needs?
Yes! We see all students as individual learners and fit the instruction to their particular needs. Several of the tutors have Special Education backgrounds and are trained in specific methods for teaching students with learning differences such as ADHD, dyslexia, or autism.

How many months do I have to sign up for?
Unlike most learning centers, Mumbling Marmot does not require pre-payment or a time commitment. Clients may schedule by the week, month or semester. Of course, if you wish to secure a specific time, it is best to schedule it several months in advance.

How much time will my child need with a tutor?
That depends on your goals. Mumbling Marmot Tutoring offers a free one-hour consultation by phone or in person to each new family to determine the learning style of the student and the goals/objectives of tutoring. At the end of that consultation a recommendation will be offered regarding frequency and length of tutoring

What if we don't like the tutor we get?
The network approach allows you to change tutors with one phone call to Mumbling Marmot.

Can tutoring replace summer school?
Yes. Most schools are willing to accept Mumbling Marmot Progress Reports in lieu of summer school.

How will I be billed?
You will receive a progress report and bill by mail or email at the end of each month. Payment is accepted in the form of checks or cash.

Will I be charged for cancellations?
You will not be charged if you cancel 24 hours in advance of your scheduled appointment. No-shows will be charged at the full rate, because the tutor prepared for the session and set aside that time. If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance, the tutor may elect to charge or not, based on circumstances.

What other services do you offer?
We offer educational consulting which includes IEP advocates, educational action plan documents based on IEP goals or neuro-psychological testing, and help in selecting the best options for a student's education.
